Have I told you recently how much I like Swagbucks?
This is a really good option for anyone who uses the Internet ever to search for anything, and who doesn't have expendable income flowing out of their pockets and bank accounts like Baby Face George in O Brother! Where Art Thou? ("George, some uh yer folding money's come unstowed!")
All there is to it is you sign up (link below), download the tool bar (takes about 2 minutes), and then when you need to search for anything on the Internet, you just type it in that toolbar and click. Results are powered by Google and Ask!, and as you search, you'll be rewarded with points called Swagbucks. Accumulate them to use toward purchasing gift cards (or other merchandise, if it interests you) at the Swag store.
Most of the time, I earn 1-4 "bucks" a day by doing general searches for recipes, research for the stories I write, and research for school. But occasionally, someone hits a jackpot (the awards are random). Once I scored 10 bucks on a search. Bill got a 50-buck award. Those add up quickly. The 50 bucks were worth $5 at Amazon with 5 "bucks" left over to save for the next redemption.
I've been saving my points for Amazon gift cards because I can buy almost all our books and curricula there for home school. So far, I've earned about $35 toward the purchases I'll need to make for the girls for next year. That will buy both Jane's and Emma's spelling/vocabulary texts for next year.
But if Amazon's not your thing, you can save for Subway cards, JC Penney, Target, Sears, Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, and many other stores as well.
