Forever Autumn

Some things are just self-explanatory. If you hear it, and it makes those pangers in your heart, then you know. You know.

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near.
The winter winds will be much colder
now you're not here.

I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear.
I wish that I was flying with them
now you're not here.

Like the sun through the trees you came to love me.
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away.

Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way.
You always loved this time of year.
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
'cause you're not here.

'Cause you're not here.
'Cause you're not here.

A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
as if to hide a lonely tear.
My life will be forever autumn
'Cause you're not here.

'Cause you're not here.
'Cause you're not here.

Love this song (and the whole War of the Worlds album). One of the best Moody Blues but not Moody Blues songs. Very evocative and sad.

Colin--you read my blog!
I'm touched and flattered and pleased. Thank you!

Do you know the orchestrated version Justin Hayward did on his Classic Blue album? I actually like that version better than the uptempo one in WotW--it just seems to fit the whole somber mood better to me. If you haven't heard it and want to, I think I have an mp3 of it on my computer.
